Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Hardware: Dell Inspiron E1505 w/ ATI X1400 video, 2GB RAM
Software: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha3 desktop disc (properly burned)

When the LiveCD is loading, both from "Try Without Changes" and from "Install", after the Kubuntu splash screen the boot stops. The screen remains blank, and after two minutes I can hear the disc drive spin down. There is also no hard drive activity at this time. I can let the machine sit like this overnight and nothing changes.

I could not find a way to get any sort of response from the computer, so I have no trace or log to append to the bug report.

In what appears to be a related issue, installation from the Alternative disc completes, however, upon booting the system has the same symptoms as the LiveCD has. After the Kubuntu splash screen the screen remains black and there is no disk activity. This persists hours, until I finally hard reset with the power switch.

What can I do to diagnose this situation?

The Jaunty beta and release version installed fine from the alternative install disc, so I am closing this issue. I did not test with the LiveCD, however. If the devs insist, I will try it and report back.
