Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I have configured an ASUS M2N68-CM motherboard with an NVidia chipset to run the two SATA drives as RAID-1 within the BIOS.

I have copied the installation CD to a USB drive so that I could add RAID support for the installation.

The installation does recognise the RAID (although there seems to be some conflict with the way partition tables are managed between BIOS and Ubuntu - it is recognised first time around, but after a failed install, the partitions are still recognised, but can no longer be formatter - but can be mounted, read, and written to).

Another problem is that while the installation process recognises the combined RAID drive, it also sees the underlying native drives, so the partitions are listed 3 times. This is mostly not a problem, as I simply ignore the base drives and just deal with the RAID drive. The problem happens with the swap partition, which the installation tries to autodetect, and suggests there are 3 swap partitions, the two partitions on the two base drives, and the raid partition that is mapped over the base drives.

Nonetheless, most of the installation process goes to the end, but when it tries to write grub to the boot partition (I am partitioning the disk as a swpa partition, a small boot partition, and the rest is all under a single root partition - all 3 as primary partitions), it fails to complete writing grub to the boot partition, and crashes (mounting the boot partition shows some, but not all, of the files I would expect in the boot partition).
