Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Using Intrepid (8.10) amd64 LiveCD. Chose "French" language and "Swiss Frech" keyboard at startup. Ubiquity (1.10.10) crashed nearly at the end of the installation process and showed the window "Application problem. Sorry, the program "ubiquity" closed unexpectedly blablabla".

Went through installer, then it downloaded files from mirror, then crashed (in configure_timezone() it seems).
Files seems to be copied on the harddrive, but no boot loader (I think I will reboot as usual next time I restart).

If I try to lauch Ubiquity again by double-clicking on the "Installer" button on the desktop, application crashes again. I'm going to try to install the available updates from mirror before trying again.

Update failed (not enough space on I-don't-know-which drive).

So I restarted the LiveCD and launched the procedure again, but this time without selecting any user data import. This time it was successful.
I should note that the /home from which I was trying to import data was the same as the "new" home, so that may be the source of the problem (importing data from/to the same place) (this home located in /dev/sdb6 is now shared by an ubuntu 8.04 32bits on /dev/sda2 and by my new install of Intrepid 8.10 on /dev/sdb1).

It seems quite similar to Bug #234835 but not exactly a duplicate.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD) or with your hardware. Please retry your installation with new media and if it still fails I'd recommend testing your memory. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your installation media or hardware please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

Upon further consideration we'd actually like a new bug report if you still have troubles with the installer after resolving this hardware error so I am setting this bug report to Invalid. Thanks for your understanding.
