Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Trying to use the Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 CD's "install ubuntu" option... the installer appears to have died halfway through. It copied many files, then showed the desktop of "Live session user" and said no more. By and by, the desktop let me know that there had been a crash.

/var/log/installer/debug says, "InstallStepError: MigrationAssistantApply failed with code 2".

In the Terminal I tried to re-run ubiquity with --no-migration-assistant (as advised by ubiquity's man page), but instead of nicely resuming, it seemed to want to partition again, and showed only the wrong disk, not the disk I had told it to use when I booted from the CD.

In the Terminal, the 'mount' command shows /mnt/migrationassistant is the mountpoint of a partition that I had told the installer, "Do not use".
