Bug Description

At a certain point in the installer, the user is asked if he/she would like to migrate documents and settings. My previous Ubuntu installation (7.04) is properly detected, as well as the users on that installation. I marked all the users I wanted to migrate, but after rebooting, none of the users I marked were present on the system. The only user that was present (myself) had no migrated settings whatsoever, although the installer indicated that it would migrate Firefox, Evolution and GAIM settings.

So, actually you're asking me to re-install my system? Too bad these logs aren't saved somewhere automatically to be used at a later time, if necessary. Or are they?
Anyway, 'luckily' my Hardy installation died on me when I had a problem with the SATA cable of my main harddrive. So I re-installed today, using the latest Beta live CD.

After rebooting, again none of the settings were migrated. I suspect my partitioning scheme might be the (or a) cause of the problem - I have my /home mounted on a different partition (sdb3), and migration-assistant indicates it's getting it's settings from sda2 (the root fs of my Ubuntu 7.04 setup). However, migration-assistant should be able to handle a configuration like this, since it's quite common (and advisable, IMHO).

I'll attach the logs mentioned on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs .

Hope you have enough info to start working this bug now.
