install of ubuntu (minimal install) failed with insufient diskspace. is there no diskspace check upfront?

Bug Description

After install has been copying files for a while the installation failed due to insufficient diskspace. Should that not have been checked before installation?
(and is 10GB not enough for a minimal installation?)
