Bug Description

In the current Ubuntu 22.04 Installer the "Install Type" menu is is missing the 1st 3 options preventing Re-installation and saving existing Personal Files.

Refer to this image of what the "Install Type" menu *should* look like:

https://i.ibb.co/xFx5P4S/Ubuntu-22-04-Installation-Programs-Installation-Type-Menu-Missing-1st-3-options.png

But the 1st Three options are Missing !

The attachment to this Bug report shows the above image also. Again, using
Ubuntu 22.04 the 1st Three options are missing.

It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. The appearance of the first three options is dependent upon the layout of the disk to which you are installing Ubuntu. Are there any other installs of Ubuntu on the disk to which you are installing? If not then only "Erase Disk and Install Ubuntu" would appear.

Yes there is an existing Ubuntu install but that's beside the point.

The Installation Type menu used to look like the following URL and still should.

How else can someone re-install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS but keep their /home personal files.

Unless of course you want to make newbies pick "Something Else" the recreate all partitions BUT /home.

I think that would be a mistake.

This Problem has happened to someone on the Ubuntu sub-reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/152vevl/no_option_to_reinstall/

I didn't initially want to test this myself to see if he was right.

Then I decided to try a USB Ubuntu Install myself on one of my Existing Ubuntu 22.04.2 Desktop systems.
Booted the USB and picked Install Ubuntu

When I got the the "Installation Type" menu ...

He was right... those First 3 options are now missing even though the disk I would be installing TO already
had Ubuntu 22.04.2 on it.

All I had on my screen as options were:

- Erase disk and Install Ubuntu
- Something Else

So anyone that has an existing Ubuntu installation but hoses something up and wants to just reinstall Ubuntu but keep their existing /home personal files looks out of luck.

That can't be right?

Any comments regarding this issue yet?

Should be easy to confirm/verify & only takes maybe 5-7 minutes.

Just pick an "existing" 22.04 system,

- Make an install USB
- Boot off the USB
- Pick "Install Ubuntu"
---- answer questions until you get presented with the "Installation Type" menu

You'll see the first 3 Options are missing... Despite the Target system already having an existing Ubuntu installation!

That prevents users from re-installing BUT keep their Personal (/home) files (docs, pictures, videos etc).

This is even though the system you are trying to install on already has an existing Ubuntu 22.04 installed.

Obviously you can abort the install so as not to change the existing Ubuntu installation.
