Bug Description

Installer (kubuntu-22.04-desktop-amd64.iso, downloaded July 2022) crashed when almost done. Progress bar said something like checking filesystems 90%. It had already removed all unneeded packages (did minimal install [not from minimal iso]). Problem in that I couldn't get a console from the main installer screen (or just didn't know how) so tried to send but from Ctl-Alt-F2 console, but that obviously failed to launch a brower. Eventually the installer finished/crashed (?) and put me in live mode, so I redid the report. Hopefully it's not a duplicate. Until I reboot, I won't know if the install got far enough to use the system or if I need to start from scratch. I also can't tell if ubuntu-bug actually uploaded anything or not, and this reporting only allows a single attachment, so hopefully I can upload /var/log/partman later. However, I had pre-partitioned and root was /var/log/vgo1-lv_root and /boot was /dev/sdc1. At this point, /target has been unmounted (by the installer, not by me)

This is an old box pre UEFI.

It looks like /var/log/partman did get uploaded.

Note /dev/sda was the install USB thumb drive, /dev/sdc was the target drive (1TB HDD). /dev/sdb is the old failed drive in the PC, and was intermittently generating plenty of read errors.

Rebooting into the installed system was successful, but there were over 400 upgrades available. I did tell the installer to download updates, so hopefully it's just because it hadn't gotten to them by the time it crashed.
