Tried it for a third time and took notes this time.

1. Choose option Normal / Download Updates / Install 3rd Party SW.
2. Use guided install entire disk with LVM encryption.
3. Filled in the "Who Are You?" page.
4. Watched it go through the Copying Files from 0-100%
5. Final step of retriving files / unpacking-installing / detecting HW and configuring / Installing nvidia-440 / Removing files / Running dpkg THEN about 90% into this step, Installing System and Downloading. Then crash.

I tried it a fourth time and only thing I did different was I did NOT use the Install 3rd Party SW option. The install completed. But upon rebooting I was able to type the encryption password, but system would not boot after that.

Hope this helps.
