“errno 5 - input/output error” when trying to install

Bug Description
I have been trying for FIVE days, countless downloads, Ubuntu USB installers, CD's, DVD's and USB sticks, to install Ubuntu Desktop 11.10 and have had no luck. I always get [Errno 5] Input/output error and have been searching for an answer and solution.

I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
