Unable to install Osgeo Live from USB to internal HDD

Bug Description
The internal hdd is new.
Even after trying different ways to format the hdd (or leave the default option), the Osgeo Live installation says unable to format and stops or hangs.

It's possible you had a bad write to your media. When having such problems should try the option to check the integrity of the image from the installer boot menu, and if this confirms that the media is corrupt, try re-writing it.
