It's possible you had a bad write to your installation media or for some other reason its contents could not be read correctly.
Also, Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of- standard- support on April 25, 2019.
I'm closing this report as this wasn't a bug with the Ubuntu installer.
