Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

on an AMD64 install, ubiquity crashes near the end of the install. No advanced or non-default changes were made to any install questions, except I manually configured my partitions, since I'm switching to mythbuntu from ubuntu+mythtv, and want to preserve my /home partition, where all my recordings are. syslog and partman are attached

The install is at 83% when the crash happens, and the text in the progress dialog states:
"configuring mythtv"

So the username that you had on the previous installation, was this also 'nik'? Did he have a ~/.config/ directory already made? Worse off, did he have ~/.config/autostart/mythtv.desktop?

The previous username is 'nik', and it is an Ubuntu 7.04 + MythTV box, so there is quite possibly a ~/.config/autostart/mythtv.desktop. I will confirm the second question.

If there isn't, can you check the permissions on that folder? I suspect
that it was only writable by the old uid 'nik'. (Which we can override if
that is where the problem is)

I re-ran install, picking a username other than "Nik", and install completed sucessfully. The owner of ~/Nik is 1000/1000, so it was probably a uid conflict between the old Nik account and the new one. All is well now.

evan and colin: should ubiquity normally be able to allow you to reuse
a username? i am not sure if this is caused by the mythbuntu changes
at a first glance.

  * Strip out support for creating multiple users in migration-assistant.
  * Save state in between runs of migration-assistant (LP: #151126).
