Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner.
From UbiquitySyslog.txt which was added to this bug report:
Oct 21 06:01:01 ubuntu kernel: [ 97.408621] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x0 super_block
Oct 21 06:01:01 ubuntu kernel: [ 97.408631] squashfs: SQUASHFS error: unable to read squashfs_
It's possible you had a bad write to your installation media or for some other reason its contents could not be read correctly.
I'm closing this report as this isn't a bug with the Ubuntu installer, also
Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.
