Bug Description
I had an 32bit-ubuntu-
sudo chown -R rolf:rolf /home/rolf
sudo chmod -R u+rwX /home/rolf
sudo chmod 600 /home/rolf/.dmrc
sudo chmod 755 /home/rolf

Please do not use ubiquity / usb / cd sticks to upgrade. Instead use the updater http:// www.ubuntu. com/download/ desktop/ upgrade
You most likely lost many apps as well which were not possible to upgrade.
