Bug Description

Ubiquity no longer runs from the Ubuntu GNOME live session. After clicking Install on the dash, it just seems to hang, it does not crash and no GUI loads.

Running manually with --with-no-sso does allow it too work

Ubuntu GNOME Saucy Daily Build (saucy-amd64-26-8-2013) - Try Ubuntu GNOME without Installation - Whenever I click "Install", it does not start while "ubiquity" is running as per System Monitor. It just sit over there on the desktop, doing nothing. Yes, I can move my mouse and do anything except installing the system.

I have tried the build from 27th. It does take a while for ubiquity to show up.
From syslog:

12:40:06 Ubiquity 2.15.14
12:40:34 switched to page language

At the same time from /var/log/install/debug
Error retreiving accessibility bus address. DBus.Error.NoReply: did not receive a reply. Has something change w.r.t. accessibility?

Looking at the submitted logs:
Aug 27 03:23:32 ubuntu-gnome ubiquity[2581]: Ubiquity 2.15.14
Aug 27 03:23:36 ubuntu-gnome ubiquity[2581]: switched to page language

Aug 27 03:23:37 ubuntu-gnome ubiquity[2581]: switched to page prepare
Aug 27 03:23:37 ubuntu-gnome ubiquity[2581]: switched to page language

So ubiquity did display within 4 seconds. Is gnome shell actually displaying / brings ubiquity window to front?

I also can't duplicate this today so I'm going to close the bug. I do note that it takes ubiquity a full 30 seconds to open after the password prompt on real hardware.

If someone else still has this problem with the latest nightly Ubuntu GNOME image, either open a new bug or reopen this one.

amjjawad, you may need to file a new bug for your issue. If you're using the "Install Alongside" option then it's probably a known bug we've been mentioning in the Release Notes for 13.04 and the 13.10 Alphas.

@Jeremy

I have already filed a new one few days ago and you have marked it a Duplicate of this one!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1217373

I have been clear and mentioned the details. I have chosen "Try Ubuntu GNOME without installation". Test was on a Virtual Machine as I don't have a Real Hardware with more than 1GB RAM, all my real test machines are 512MB RAM.

Ubiquity wasn't running on the desktop but it does exist on the System Monitor. It is just not showing.

Since this is a VirtualBox (Oracle Latest Version) then Network is enabled my default (not wireless as this is a virtual machine).

I will try to check what happened with the latest image after the UDS.

Thanks!

May I ask why to open new bug? there are now 3 bugs reported for the very same issue so I am so much confused and I can't understand why 3 reported bugs for the same issue? this is so much confusing!

The issue is NOT yet solved, by the way. Testing ubuntu-gnome-13.10-beta1-desktop-i386 >>> problem still not yet solved.

Thank you!

because i want logs collected at the point it hangs, which $
ubuntu-bug ubiquity during the hung session does.
Without them, there is little I can investigate given that a few
ubiquity upstream developers (jbicha and I) failed to reproduce this
bug.

Dmitrijs.

I can again reproduce this on live session on the 20130909 Ubuntu GNOME image.

Backtrace attached, seems to be stuck trying to connect to ibus?

I can't get a python backtrace since py-bt and py-list appear to be broken currently on saucy.

This is fixed for Ubuntu GNOME since the new Ubuntu One feature is no longer included, starting with today's daily build.

Since there are now multiple reports of the Ubuntu image having a similar problem, I don't know if the ubiquity developers want to keep this particular bug open or not.

Hello,

This bug still occours in daily build 20131009 amd 64bit iso.
After reading the other comments i decided to remove the ubiquity-plugin-ubuntuone. It worked.

Currently installing.

PS: Before this attempt, i used the "Install ubuntu whatever" option of unetbootin. I was able to get ubiquity working but it failed after selecting the partitions ( saying the drive was busy over and over again )
