Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I'm having many hangs in the use of manual partitioning. In this case, I left the partition table alone (it's not clear how to assign mount points) and the installer always hangs at this point. Hitting back doesn't work. Sometimes hitting quit causes an installer crash, and sometimes the installer just sits there and I'm unable to pull down any of the menus from the task bar (such as applications -> Accessories -> Terminal).

Installer crashed

We're sorry: the installer crashed. Please file a new bug report at https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug (do not attach your details to any existing bug) and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To help the developers understand what went wrong, include the following detail in your bug report, and attach the files /var/log/installer/syslog , /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 116, in on_back_clicked
    gtk.main_quit()
  RuntimeError: called outside of mainloop

Thanks for your report. The crash itself is bug 54163, fixed in Ubuntu 6.10. It sounds like gparted is having trouble with your disk, so I suggest trying at least 7.04 instead; if you really need to install 6.06, the alternate install CD should get you going.
