Bug Description
Using install of 7.04 i386 Desktop fails with existing partitions. After creating the desired partition table the system decides to do a disk scan prior to re-partioning, thus triggering the automounter to mount the first EXISTING partition it finds. That then locks the disk and therefore the rewrite of the partition table fails (duh).
Workaround will be to remove any Linux partitions prior to repartitioning (i.e fdisk from the command line). Solution will probably involve some sort of suppression of the auto-mounter during installation.

Could you clarify which flavour of Ubuntu you were installing? Is it possible that it was Kubuntu or Xubuntu?
