all my problems started with an instalation of Opera 10.52.1100. From that point on I was unable to install or remove any software. Suggestion was to remove OPera and reinstall. Still problems remained until I removed some remaining files in: /var/cache/info.dpkg. Then I was able to reinstall, the computer went into a routine to install 13 upgrades, but tzdata failed to install.
