Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-datetime

Today, time changed from North American Eastern Daylight Time to Eastern Standard Time. I assumed that Ubuntu would change my clock automatically since every other electronic device I own does so.

See attached picture.

Do I need to be synced with time servers for the DST adjustment? I don't think that should be a requirement.

I should note that the time was actually off by an hour in the wrong direction. If no time adjustment took place at all, the time should be 6:10 (this time of day yesterday was 6:10pm), but it is showing 4:10.

I'm quite sure that no one manually adjusted the clock, but I find it strange that the time is an hour off in the wrong direction. Could the system have changed the time twice?

The clock indicator applet successfully updated this morning at 2 AM for me on Natty 11.04. Someone else might have experienced this problem. Will wait for confirmation.

The indicator just asks the system for the time. It doesn't know anything about daylight savings time or any other timezone related information. That's all in the system.

affects: indicator-datetime (Ubuntu) → tzdata (Ubuntu)
Changed in indicator-datetime:
status: New → Invalid
