Bug Description
Binary package hint: tzdata
Hi,
I would like to suggest important updates to the Indian Time Zone (IST).
1. The timezone is sometimes listed as Asia/Calcutta. There are three things wrong with using "Calcutta". A] The city is now Kolkata (I think I have seen Asia/Kolkata somewhere). B] Kolkata is no longer the largest city in India. C] No time-keeping related activity is associated with Kolkata. (IST is measured from Mirpur, near Allahabad) So, instead of using Kolkata, please change it to the capital city, New Delhi.
2. In the list of Indian cities, the old city names are present, and not the new. It's been 15 years since some of the city names have been changed, but no such updates are seen in Ubuntu. eg, Bombay > Mumbai, Calcutta > Kolkata, Madras > Chennai, Bangalore > Bengaluru. Instead of deleting the old names, I would suggest that new entries be copied from the old names so that Bombay and Mumbai both exist.
I am interested in adding more Indian cities to the list of available cities in India when selecting a time zone. How do I do this?
