DejaVu Sans LGC should be available

Bug #40553 reported by Denis Moyogo Jacquerye on 2006-04-21

ttf-dejavu (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

Some users dislike the Arabic glyphs in DejaVu Sans as much as others like them. DejaVu Sans LGC provides the same characters and features as DejaVu Sans without the Arabic script.

It should be included so users can chose either fonts.

please provide a dejavu-lgc-sdf upstream tarball.
how should the packaging be done? Just include the fonts in the package, or have a separate package (and let the ttf-dejavu-lgc package provide ttf-dejavu)?

Need to add them to our fontconfig configuration as well?

The LGC fonts can be generated by running the script.
A separate packages would probably be best so users can chose between either. There's not much use to have DejaVu LGC if DejaVu (full) is installed and the opposite too for users who don't want the DejaVu Sans Arabic.

It would makes sense to have ttf-dejavu-lgc provide ttf-dejavu and add them (even as alias) to the fontconfig configuration.

Attached is a debdiff that generates a new package. This has been tested for Feisty.

Arne, could you have a look at this and see if it is relevant to apply for Hardy?
