manually added torrent does not appear in downloads

1) start tribler
2) manually add a torrent via '+'
3) no torrent appears in downloads area

even restarting the program doesn't show it...but
if I try to add the .torrent file again, a window pops up saying

"You are already downloading this torrent, see the Downloads section."

which kind of suggests it is going on in the background.

* Family filter doesn't seem to matter.

This among many bugs is fixed in version 7.0...which ubuntu doesn't yet have.
