Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

When viewing the torrent properties, either while adding new torrent files or from the main window , the individual file size info is often hidden and the only way to view the info is to expand the column size of the filename. [size info hidden since most of the torrents have crazy long names.;-)]

At the same time, the download column is wide enough and has a lot of wasted space.

It would be easier to view the file size info if it was moved to the download column instead, along with the checkbox.
The info is also relevant to the "download" column.
Makes it easier to check/select which file to download.

I sort of sympathise with the rationale, but that change is pretty nonintuitive IMO. Surely there's a better way to address this.

Re-titling the ticket to reflect the problem, rather than the suggested solution, which I don't like.

TBH I don't think the problem is a significant either, but it's a reasonable suggestion.

summary: - Move Filesize info to Download column
+ Filesize is sometimes hard to read in "Files" tab

Well, basically i wanted to show that the size info can be shown in the same space, without adding any more extra columns.

if its a problem of the column header not being accurate, then maybe name the header "Download (size)" would work?

Not sure what was the problem you noticed in the current suggestion, if it was mentioned maybe I could think of an alternate suggestion..

Vish,

Sorry I let this ticket fall through the cracks. I think the current suggestion makes things less intuitive than before. For example if this were to be implemented I'm pretty sure people would start wondering why clicking on that column's header didn't sort by size.

IMO moving the filesize to its own column would be better than shoehorning it into the download column.

Yeah, I did not think about the sorting. A separate column sounds good.

I was trying to think about using the empty space in the 'download' column .
To save the space, what we could do is drop the header for the column.
Move the checkbox as the first column.
So the first column would just be a 'checkbox' with no header followed by the 'File Name' 'Progress' 'Size' 'Priority' .
Or if the header has to have a name, we could name the first column as 'Select' which would be smaller than 'Download'.

Vish: could you file an upstream ticket at trac.transmissionbt.com for this enhancement?
