Transmission 1.5x will only resolve IPv4 addresses due to some things that need to be reworked internally.

I've confirmed this bug. Some sort of fix went into 1.60-1 debian release but I'm skeptic about it and have to check it out with Transmission Developer. If this fix is causing problems described in upstream bts bug linked to this bug report I'll ask debian maintainer to revert this patch.
There is still no right solution of this problem as far as I know.

This may have been fixed in Transmission 2.20: https://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/Changes#version-2.20
"Better support for IPv6-only trackers"

Can anyone confirm? Transmission 2.33 is in oneiric.
