Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

It would be super useful to have Transmission ask you, when you remove a torrent, if you want to delete the partially downloaded file too. That would save the user from having to track it down in the file browser.

Could this fix be included in hardy? I just found out about this when my harddrive was filled up but turned out to have a lot of halfway downloaded torrents which I thought I deleted on the disk.

And it could be very useful that you could choose in options that always remove files when you remove torrents.

I don't think that would be useful. Very few people would turn on an option that always removes files when you remove the torrents.

This is not fixed. In intrepid, if I press remove on a partially downloaded torrent, it still doesn;t ask if I want to delete the partially (and thus useless) downloaded files.

In Intrepid, there are 2 options in the context-menu: Remove and "Delete files and Remove". So I don't see the need for having an extra-button for this.

I am not suggesting an extra button, when you click remove on a partially downloaded file, either the files should be deleted or you should be asked if you want to keep those partially downloaded files. Often when people remove partially downloaded files they end up with useles files on their computer that look like they are complete because there is no indication that they are not complete and this just clutters up your computer.

(some bittorrent clients solve this by keeping partially downloaded files in a separate location, or by adding an extention like .part to the file)

Like Andreas says, right clicking on the torrent will give you the options of removing the torrent leaving the incomplete files or "Delete files and Remove" which does just what it says. The functionality you want is there. If you don't like the implementation of this feature, maybe you should take the request upstream.

Your second point (using .part or some other way to denote a partially downloaded file) seems like a separate request.

Actually, I think he does have a point. I can think of two cases where
an average user can remove a torrent without downloading it completely:

-He's only interested in some of the files, so he downloads these and
ignores the rest, then removes the torrent.
-He decides he doesn't really want the files in the torrent, so he
removes it halfway the download process.

In case A it makes sense that he would want to keep the downloaded
files. But what about case B? Is there any reason why he would want to
remove the torrent BUT keep those partial files that probably won't work
anyway?

In other words, why should the user EXPLICITLY say that he wants
partially downloaded files gone? Why would he want them on his computer
anyway?
