Tracker indexer runs even when "enable indexing" is disabled

Bug Description

I had "enable indexing" disabled for tracker almost from the beginning. After upgrading to Jaunty yesterday, tracker-indexer suddenly started running in the background, making the system more or less unusable. This despite the fact that the indexing was still disabled. I have now disabled trackerd autostart and shot down the processes, which has solved the issue for now. Is this a bug, or a case of EBKAC?

Did you notice this after installing removable media, or mounting any new devices?

Changed in tracker (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Incomplete

Blast, you're right, I attached a USB stick before seeing this. So this may well be a duplicate of #359207. I will try re-enabling the tracker (but leaving indexing disabled) in order to observe this. You could still mark it as a duplicate though, until proven otherwise.

Michael - could you please try 0.6.93-0ubuntu2~chrisccoulson3 from my PPA, to see if it fixes this problem for you? (make sure indexing is disabled in the preferences first, and you will need to restart tracker after updating - it's easiest just to log out and back in again)

Thanks

I installed the packages from your ppa, logged in, logged out and plugged in a USB stick. trackerd and tracker-indexer are both running, but neither are high enough in the process list in top to be visible, so I assume the problem is fixed. I will let you know if I see any more problems.
