Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus provides search through Tracker. The "Tracker Search Tool" provides an easy way to tag files (using Tracker) from within it. However, Nautilus does not. I would like to see the addition of such an interface to Nautilus, possibly with features utilizing it (tag cloud like thing).

that's rather a tracker request, it could distribute a nautilus extension doing tagging

in tracker subversion repository there is such an extension, can be found under
tracker/python/nautilus. Follow instructions in the README. Works fine for me .

Really, the tags should be part of the filesystem, not part of Tracker.

I'd love to see that also. I'm really annoyed at the current way we get to organize our personal data. Many of my files fit in more than one folder and symlinking it to many folders is just too much of a hassle. I can't stop dreaming about having a Gmail-like solution on Nautilus.

I'd like to add to this, that it only seems possible in Tracker to tag files that come up as a search result. At least I have found no way in Tracker to go through all my files one by one, folder by folder, and tag them. It's easy to see that this makes tagging in Tracker impractical and haphazard for most use cases. Because there's no practical way to tag files in Nautilus either, there doesn't seem to be no usable way to have a tag-based file organization in Ubuntu - which I wouldn't have expected, when I a week ago decided to create one for me! :-/
