Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer

In Feisty development version with all updates as of March 19, 2007, Totem-gstreamer plays mp3 files with awful skipping, while Rhythmbox plays the same files fine. As both applications use Gstreamer as a backend, I presume this is a bug in Totem.

Thank you for your bug. Does it happen with any mp3 file or only some? Do you have the bug if you use "gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///path/to/file"?

This happens on all mp3 files. Also, here's what I get from the command you specified:

temcat@eden:/media/sda6/Music$ gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=/media/sda6/Music/natasha_perfectnine.mp3
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
ERROR: Pipeline doesn't want to pause.
ERROR: from element /playbin0: Invalid URI "/media/sda6/Music/natasha_perfectnine.mp3".
Additional debug info:
gstplaybasebin.c(1556): gen_source_element (): /playbin0

Oops, nevermind the output in my last comment. Here's the correct command:

temcat@eden:/media/sda6/Music$ gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///media/sda6/Music/natasha_perfectnine.mp3
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
Pipeline is PREROLLED ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstAudioSinkClock

It plays OK.

could you run "GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=5 totem &>log" and attach the log to the bug?

OK, here it is. I loaded an mp3 and played the first several seconds (with skipping). The log is 23.5MB long, BTW.

"Does it work if you switch off visualisations in the totem preferences and
restart totem?

Does it work if you select a different type of visualisation? (e.g. libvisual_*
instead of goom)?"

Hi, Totem doesn't skip for me if I switch off visualizations. As for selecting a different type of visualization, for some reason I cannot do it - only Goom is available.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - the Gutsy Gibbon. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the bug doesn't fit requirements for backporting. See [WWW] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.
