Bug Description

After upgrading to oneric navigation in full screen mode is not working anymore. Moving the mouse used to bring up a navigation area at the bottom of the window containing the progress bar and basic player controls such as pause and play. Now moving the mouse doesn't trigger any action at all and the is no way to bring up the navigation area.

Right clicking does bring up the context menu but left clicking doesn't even stop the movie. Also the mouse pointer is not visible at all in full screen mode.

Thank you for your report. Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce your bug. I'm sure it could be due to a difference hardware or procedure. Could you add more specifics and detailed steps to reproduce it?

Hi Matthew,

this is how I can trigger the described behaviour:

 * Click on any .avi file in the file manager.
 * When it opens it totem and starts playing press the F key => Playback switches into full screen mode
 * Moving the mouse does not have any visible effect, the navigation area is not displayed

If I had to guess I'd say it's caused by the window (or overlay) displaying the video does not receive the mouse input.

When pressing the left mouse button and moving the mouse ("dragging") a "drag" icon is displayed as the cursor, indicating a document being dragged. Otherwise there is no pointer displayed at all.

Information about my video card (onboard Radeon) can be found in the xorg log attached to the original report.

It happens to me after upgrading from oneiric to precise beta2.
I'm sure that it began to happen after a further update, not immediately after upgrading.

I would like to join the issue.
I have no problem with my regular usb wireless mouse which is working the way as expected but with my touchpoint (Lenovo R61i). It's by default configured in the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-evdev-trackpoint.conf file. My touchpoint behaves exactly the same way as described in the first post. Oneiric and Precise (both clean installed).

A clean install of Precise doesn't show the issue.

Allesandro, I've replicated this on a multiple clean precise installs, as well as clean installs of other distros (fedora/arch). There is bug reports for this on fedora's tracker as well. This seems to be an upstream bug only effecting certain types of touchpads (works fine on my older laptop, but not on my newer laptop with an elantech touchpad)

I've reported it upstream here:

according to upstream this won't be fixed properly until totem's controls are re-written in clutter which is a work in process. This likely won't land until at least totem 3.10

This is still an issue with Trusty (14.04.3).

I have found that the controls do not show up when using the trackpad, but do work if you swipe on a touch screen. Once the controls are up, moving the mouse with the trackpad keeps them visible, but after they disappear from inactivity, moving the trackpad will not bring the controls back up.

Works ok in Ubuntu 18.04 with mouse and laptop touchpad
If anyone still has a problem with other devices then a
new bug report should be opened.

Closing this one as fixed.
