Black box after changing volume when playing video fullscreen

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

If I change the volume using a key assigned in Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts (System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts) a little window pops up for a second, telling me the volume.

However, when this window closes itself, where it was is not redrawn by totem, and the video continues playing with a black box in the center.

Note that this only occurs when in fullscreen AND when the controls are not visible.

I work around this by pressing fullscreen twice, forcing a redraw.

I'm using totem with the xine backend.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Play a movie in totem
2. Fullscreen totem
3. Press the key assigned to Volume Up, Volume Down, or Mute in the Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts
4. Once the volume window has closed, where it was will just stay black until a redraw is forced (i.e. it fullscreen is pressed)

One little addition: When viewing DVDs with subtitles this does not happen.

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What videocard and videodriver do you have? Do you have the same problem with xine-ui by example?

I have the same issue and it is really annoying. I have Ubuntu 6.10, an ATI Radeon 8500 with Mesa 6.5.1 drivers. I have not been able to reproduce the problem with Xine (after the volume control goes away there is a black box, but it almost instantly disappears).

Confirmed here, both with totem-gstreamer and totem-xine.

I have Feisty up-to-date, an Intel gma 915 mobile, with the intel driver from the universe repo.

I can confirm this bug.
I use: Totem 2.18.1 using xine-lib 1.1.4
Gnome: 2.18.1
Video card: ATI Radeon 7500, using "ati" driver
Ubuntu Feisty, up-to-date
This problem does not seem to affect VLC or MPlayer.
Many thanks for you attention,
Mike

not too sure if this is off topic (if it is i apologize) but it also happens when the pop-up track notifications are displayed in amarok. this might help figure out why the box remains as it might shed more light on the possible reasons.

if you go from windowed to full screen while the track change pop-up is active, it will not leave a black box. it leaves the black box only if the pop-up was issued while the video was already full screen.

totem 2.18.1
xine-lib1.1.4
ubuntu feisty

cheers!
