Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

steps to reproduce.

open a video (eg file:///usr/share/example-content/Ubuntu_Free_Culture_Showcase/How%20fast.ogg )
in preferences->audio, set output to one of the surround sound options.
close prefs
in preferences->audio, set output to stereo
play the video.

may need to repeat a few times. may need volume set to zero.

i only have stereo speakers.

still crashes in oneiric betas.

I have tried to reproduce in Ubuntu 12.10 but I haven't been able to. If you still can reproduce it please feel free to change the status of the report back to "new". Otherwise please kindly ignore this message.
