X Windows System error trying to launch totem-xine

Running latest Dapper. When I try to start totem, the program starts then immediately closes down, with the following error:

Are you using totem-xine? What platform is this on?

Does it happen if you run "totem video.avi" to start playing a video directly too?

Maybe this is a duplication of #35229. Try to rescale the image /usr/share/totem/totem_logo.png to something like 800x600.

It does indeed happen when I start totem with a video. This is on i386 with an Intel Core Duo processor.

It does happen when playing a video? So that's not a duplicate of the logo issue...

I apologize, it doesn't happen when playing a video (the video I was trying was a corrupted file). It's a duplicate.

i have attatched an strace output of totem --sync

how do we fix this? it just doesnt work!!!

the error just doesnt allow me to open totem
forget geting to a point where i get to open a video
it just wont stay open
