Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

When something is playing in totem and I try to adjust the volume it instantly becomes very loud.
It doesn't matter if I'm trying to turn the volume up or down, as soon as I touch the handle the volume becomes loud.
It also changes the position of my volume control handle in the notification area.

I don't think that this is the duplicate of that bug report.
The volume becomes loud suddenly as soon as I touch the volume control in Totem (in the totem interface, not by going to sound preferences as in bug #411042).
It also happens if I'm trying to lower the volume.
Other applications such as Banshee don't exhibit the same behavior.

Confirming the issue reported in the description.

Test case:

* Open totem and start playing a video file
* Right click on the speaker icon in systray, select "Sound Preferences"
* Switch to "Applications" tab.
* Click on the speaker icon in Totem and click on the slider
* Observe that totem application-specific volume in sound prefs suddenly jumps to another value
* Probably due to Bug 411042 the master volume also jumps, which can result in a very lound total volume
* Move the volume slider in totem and observe how the app-specific volume in sound prefs moves, but not in sync with the totem volume slider.

For now I'm removing the duplicate status to Bug 411042, since these appear to be 2 different issues

Not confirming the issue there on karmic, the issue is an upstream one in any case and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME) too

I can no longer reproduce this so I'm marking it fix-released.
