Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

It would be really nice if totem would be able to auto-detect codepage and auto-load subtitles for a loaded movie. I can provide code which can detect Czech subtitles (used codepages win1250, latin2, iso-8859-2, utf8), it can be easily modified for other languages. It's annoying if you have to do it always manually (load subtitles and select codepage).

This is quite a big issue for languages with diacritics.

Also html tags such as <i></i> etc should be interpreted or at least removed if present.

I also had problems with various subtitle formats, some of them cannot be loaded. I am not reporting this as a separate bug as I cannot provide better information and I feel it more like feature request than a bug report.

I don't think this is a duplicate! I am reporting different thing.

It is possible that solution for the first bug Bug #159678 will solve also this one, but both are different issues!

it's a duplicate, please look at the upstream report, it would fix both issues.
