Can not remove totem-gstreamer package

When I attempt to remove the totem-gstreamer pakage using apt-get or synaptic, I
received the following error:
update-alternatives: internal error:
/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/gnome-video-thumbnailer corrupt: missing newline
after manflag
dpkg: error processing totem-gstreamer (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error code 2
Errors was found during process:
totem-gstreamer
E: sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Which version of Ubuntu and dpkg do you use? Does 'dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii' report
anything?

I have used Ubuntu 5.04 "upgraded" to 5.10. After a fresh install the issue
disappear. Thanks for the support.
