tried to open video player but it doesn't open at all no launch error nothing

I have tried to play an mp4 video using the default video player . I always prefer defaults over third party but it doesn't open at all . The mouse ticker shows loading but after a few moments nothing loads at all just like I didn't tried to open anything .
