Bug Description

ausuS m4a88td-m/usb3, i have problems with ubuntu 10.04 LTS AND ,,UBUNTU 12.10, IN THE SAME MOTHERBOARD,

IN UBUNTU 10.04, THE AUDIO DOES NOT PLAY AT ALL AFTER A REBOOT, THE DRIVERS AND REPOSITORIES OF ALSA MIXER WEREN'T CHANGED, THE ONLY THING I DID IN MY PC WAS TO RESTART THE PC ITSELF. AFTER THE REBOOT THE AUDIO DID NO PLAY AT ALL IN THE UBUNTU 12.10 DISTRO.

IN UBUNTU 12.10 TOTEM MEDIA PLAYER CRASHES IMMEDIATELY AFTER I TRIED TO PLAY ANY SONG OR VIDEOS,
ALSO IN THIS UBUNTU 12.10, WHEN I UPGRADED FROM UBUNTU 12.04 THE RESOLUTION SCREEN IS STUCK IN 1024 X 768 AND THERE'S NO ANY BIGGER AND BETTER RESOLUTION, I HAVE A MONITOR ASUS VS197, WITH VGA CABLE,

FULL SPECS OF MY PC
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3
MONITOR: ASUS VS197

I CAN PLAY DIFFERENT MUSIC AND MOVIE PLAYERS EXCEPT TOTEM, IT ALWAYS CRASHES FOR NO REASON.

Please focus on one issue per bug report (and USE LESS CAPS). Ubuntu 10.04 probably needs a much newer kernel to get Realtek ALC892 working, so we'll focus on Ubuntu 12.10. It seems like everything is working correctly there except Totem crashing. Please start totem from the terminal, crash it, and attach the output.

Note that your poor resolution is probably due to having fglrx/Catalyst driver still installed from Ubuntu 12.04 and the version in Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't support your GPU ( bug 1058040 ). Attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log/

affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) → totem (Ubuntu)

Nevermind the Xorg log. I can see that you have fglrx installed from your dmesg. You need to purge fglrx package to get correct resolution.

For the audio in ubuntu 10.04, i just removed the sound drivers and reinstalled them back again from synaptic, it worked perfectly in ubuntu 10.04.

For the ATI card and resolution problem
I follow this guidance i use the ATI driver according to this guide:

http://usemoslinux.blogspot.com/2012/10/que-hacer-despues-de-instalar-ubuntu.html

this is what ai did:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy

after some reboots and some updates and upgrades i could use gnome shell and unity back again.

Thanks to every one you're amazing fellas.
