This has been reported on
http://code.google.com/p/torsocks/issues/detail?id=43

I am getting the same message/error as the last user who posted there and have verified that with the posted muttrc,
it works with debian but fails with ubuntu. I tried with LTS, but apparently it also fails with quantal
