Quite the same for me since I upgraded to 9.04 (with 8.10 worked perfectly) on amd64 - ATI Radeon X300.
After launching torcs I start a race, I see the car on the grid, the countdown begins, I can hear the sound but after that everything hangs: no ctrl+alt+bkspace, no ctrl+alt-del, no ctrl+alt+f1 or whatever.

I simply need to power down the system...

Please ask for any information that could be useful to understand (and close) the issue (I'm am not a super-skilled programmer)

Thanks

Torcs freezes for me as soon as I start a race. I can see the cars but nothing happens after that.
Is this game still under development? If not it shouldn't be available in Ubuntu's repo.
I have Ati Radeon Mobility X1600.

I have AMD Sempron K8 (64bit), ATI RV350 AR [Radeon 9600]. With Ubuntu 11.04 x64, Torcs is frozen immediately after launch with no visible error or warning, after the output text "Compatibility mode, properties unknown."

After this, system monitor stops, VGA switches off, monitor goes standby. Only hard reset helps.

Torcs doesn't freeze for me anymore. I'm using a laptop that has an nvidia and an intel (optimus) graphics card.
