Bug Description

Hello everyone,

I'm using tor 0.2.1.30-1 and vidalia 0.2.10-3 on Ubuntu 11.04
When I try to start to daemon via Vidalia, I expected that tor would works as habitually. But instead an error occured : tor can't start (and bind) because address/port are already in use.

I looked for any program that could use it with lsof, top commands but in vain. It happens since today even after reboot !

It sounds like tor is already running. What happens if you type 'ps aux | grep tor'? You could try to run 'dpkg-reconfigure vidalia' to tell Vidalia to take over the Tor process and not start Tor until you start Vidalia.

I checked with 'ps aux | grep tor' but there is no result. I'll tell the dpkg-reconfigure vidalia command to fix it.

I have the same problem, i think this is a rights problem, because vidalia runs as the current user, but tor as root. Vidalia can´t change the config in /etc/tor/torrc either, because it´s owned by root:root by default.
It would be nice, if vidalia uses homedir/.vidalia/torrc by default and the tor client does not start as a service by default. So vidalia could control tor by startingi it as the current user with -f homedir/.vidalia/torrc. So this bug should be assigned to the vidalia package not tor!
