This is definitely a problem with the new app indicator support patched in by Ubuntu. Probably, it's having issues with trying to use the NoteManager before it's initialized (a new concern in Tomboy 1.1.1).

Changed in ubuntuone-client (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

I was under the impression that Tomboy was not going to have the app indicator patch applied in Lucid. If that's still the case, the packager just needs to remove the patch.

So, did the packager break something - or did an update of 10.04 break something ? If one of them could get it working, that'd be nice :-)

Phill.

Sandy Armstrong (sanfordarmstrong) wrote :

The packager didn't do anything intentionally. They just didn't realize that the app indicator patch would no longer work with Tomboy 1.1.1.

So now, either Jason will update the patch, or the Ubuntu guys will remove it from their Tomboy package.

We (the upstream Tomboy developers) are planning to add Lucid packages to our Tomboy PPA, but it might take some time: https://launchpad.net/~tomboy-packagers/+archive/development

Our PPA doesn't apply distro patches, so our packages won't have this issue. Sorry we don't have anything available right now.

Triaged and Critical as we know exactly what the problem is (thanks Sandy) and well, this completely breaks Tomboy which is installed with ubuntu-desktop

it seems rather bug #518672 than the application indicator change

Sebastian, these are totally separate bugs. The errors are totally different. The cause of this bug is quite clearly the app indicator patch.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

the indicator change was added back by mistake in the 1.1.1-0ubuntu1 upload due to a commit not push to the packaging vcs, that has been fixed in 1.1.1-0ubuntu2 3 days ago now, closing this bug, the current issue is the one I mentioned before

Changed in tomboy (Ubuntu):
status: Triaged → Fix Released

not sure if the fix is in yet but i just wanted to report that i cannot start tomboy on lucid - fails from Applications or if i add to panel. Icon briefly appears on panel before disappearing with the error "died unexpectedly". here's the log from tomboy --debug:

sorry forgot to mention i'm running tomboy version 1.2.0

Sandy Armstrong (sanfordarmstrong) wrote :

Sree, that is a totally different bug, probably caused by you having the wrong permissions set on your note directory, or from running out of disk space.

If the problem persists, you should open a new bug.

Sandy Armstrong (sanfordarmstrong) wrote :

Actually, Sree, this bug is not your fault at all. I see what the problem is and I'll have to fix it for 1.2.1. You should file a new bug anyway.
