Bug Description

Binary package hint: exult

The package timidity (a MIDI player) conflicted with the installation of Exult.

Ubuntu Hardy Heron, v8.04

Synaptic

I entered the correct paths to the game files (/home/name/Documents/UltimaVII/SERPENT or ULTIMA

The configuration package exited and retured this error message:

E: timidity: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: exult: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: exult-studio: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

I'm trying to find the exult.cfg file; haven't found it yet...

Thanks for reporting this problem and helping to make ubuntu better.

This does not seem to be a exult problem. Exult depends on timidity, and because timidity was not properly installed, it does not install. I therefore assign this report to timidity.

I also have this problem. I installed Timidity in synaptic, then I got this error. Now every time I try to install ANYTHING in synaptic, it still attempts to resolve this timidity problem, and I get the error every single time I try to update anything in synaptic. I installed timidity so I could get midi playback in Chocolate Doom (linux port of doom). The weird thing is midi playback through timidity works, meaning it must have installed somehow, yet its giving me this error. When I uninstall timidity, the error obviously goes away, and I no longer hear midi playback in the game. Upon reinstallation, the error returns and midi playback works again. I ran

sudo dpkg --configure -a

and got this:

Setting up timidity (2.13.2-19ubuntu1) ...
   ...fail!
invoke-rc.d: initscript timidity, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing timidity (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 timidity

and I don't have "exult" installed, so it must be a timidity issue
