FYI I had the exact same problem (18.10 updated with all the latest updates as of this moment), however I managed to get it working after recompiling the 'tilix' package from sources. For reference I used the instructions on this forum page:

I noticed there's a newer version which has been synced from Debian, but it is for the moment in cosmic-proposed (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tilix/1.8.1-1). If a rebuild is all that it takes, this newer version should presumably resolve the issue once it migrates to the release pocket.

Now that tilix 1.8.1-1 is available on Ubuntu Cosmic, I am no longer able to reproduce this issue. Thus I believe it can be marked as fix released. (I tested briefly with the rebuilt version, 1.8.1-1build1 from -proposed, and that seemed to also work as expected)

Changed in tilix (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Fix Released
