Hello Jan,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.

You made this bug report in 2012 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER

and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

G

Hi G,

it is still a bug in Ubuntu 16.04.5 with Thunderbird 52.9.1.

There is no option to close TB to the messaging-indicator!

Thanks for the update, Jan.
Could you give me specific steps to replicate the issue? I am in Ubuntu 18.04 with the same version of Thunderbird. If I can replicate the problem, then we can mark it as confirmed.
Thanks
:)

Hi G,
in TB there is no option to chosse closing to message-indicator.

So if you close TB it closes and is not running in the background.
I.e. in Evolution you can choose to close the program to the message-indicator.

In TB you can only minimize the window.

Hi Jan,
I apologize but I do not understand your comments: "closing to message-indicator" and "close the program to the message-indicator"

Is it that you want to be able to close the Thunderbird program completely but you would like the message indicator in the middle of the bar at the top of the screen to continue to give you indications when new messages comes in?

Or are you referring to the Thunderbird icon in the left bar (on the left side of the screen) that formerly had an indicator of the number of unread messages?

You are in Ubuntu 16.04. Are you planning to upgrade to 18.04 or will you stay with 16.04? The layout is different in 18.04 since it is the gnome desktop and not unity any longer.
Thanks
G
