Formatting toolbar menu entry is inverted

When composing a new email in thunderbird, the menu entry to enable and disable the formatting toolbar is inverted. I.e.- when the toolbar is shown there's no tick in the menu, and when the toolbar is hidden there is a tick in the menu.
