Bug Description
Adding an extension via Thunderbird's extension manager (e.g. Enigmail) breaks or can be broken by installing the same plugin via apt-get/dpkg. If Thunderbird is going to be the default mail client in Oneiric, some sort of workaround (disabling the extension manager?) should be considered, to avoid having users break Thunderbird or, worse, break OS upgrades.

Huh? It would help if you describe what you think is broken. Note, we've been using the extension manager already for years in both Firefox and Thunderbird, and you're the first person to say it's broken in a way that would justify disabling a core piece of functionality....
