I'm having this problem as well. When I try to compose a new message (either by clicking "Write" or "Reply" or "Reply All"), it pulls up an empty new message window. The "From:" field is empty, as is the drop down menu. I cannot select or type in a From address. When trying to reply to an existing message, it ought to auto-fill the "To:" field and quote the text of the original message, but those fields are also empty. I can fill in the "To:" and "Subject" fields, but cannot type in the main message window at all. Having entered a To: address and subject, I clicked "Send" to try sending an empty message - nothing happens.

This bug makes it completely impossible for me to send e-mails from Thundbird. I can still check my e-mail there, but have to pull up my email in a web-browser to send anything. If this bug is not fixed soon I will have to switch to a different mail program.

Installing (via apt-get) thunderbird-thunderbird-locale-en-us fixed the problem for me.

Still not sure why that was necessary. Did something get uninstalled during the update or did this package suddenly become necessary when it wasn't before...

Godnobody,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Presumably your issue was resolved some time ago and this bug report can now be closed?
