I've got the same bug but in my case I'm able to start Thunderbird. However, it crashes randomly (seemingly) after it's already been open for a while.
I attached everything from 2 apport automated crash reports except for the 300 MB core dumps. If someone really wants them I can upload it.
Note the second crash dump was from when I was still running the daily builds of Thunderbird 3 from the Mozilla Daily PPA. The first one I'd switched back to the regular Ubuntu builds.
