Bug Description

By default, Thunderbird doesn't use KDE-dialogs when running under Kubuntu, which can be changed by editing /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/components/nsFilePicker.js like described for Firefox in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=110353 . This is quite some pain, since it has to be done every time Thunderbird gets updated.

The preferable solution would be to supply a Thunderbird-KDE-integration-package, or at least putting nsFilePicker.js under /etc/[mozilla-]thunderbird/, so that user-made changes won't get wasted after each update.

Btw, in Thunderbird 1.0.x one could "dpkg-reconfigure mozilla-thunderbird" to manually update the Thunderbird Chrome Registry to enable changes made in nsFilePicker.js, which unfortunately doesn't work for Thunderbird 1.5.x anymore :-(

Assigning to Alexander to see what he thinks. I do think this is more of a kubuntu/KDE fix but lets see what he says.

This affects Firefox 1.5 as well, see Bug#43238.

Well, my ultimate solution was to migrate from Thunderbird to KMail, since there wasn't a nice Plastik-skin available for Thunderbird 1.5. Now I have all the KDE look, feel and integration that I want and need, and got an even better mail client IMHO.

Please bring back kde-firefox-support. This fixes KDE integration for Firefox and Thunderbird. Without this, it leaves Nautilus as a running process which in itself creates another bug. Nautilus is such an aggressive application that it will try to take over the desktop.

Why are Kubuntu users treated as red-headed stepchildren? (No offense to red-heads or stepchildren; it's an expression.)

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Does anyone still see a problem related to the one that was reported using a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
